About Us

"I have fought the good fight, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His coming."

Our Story

Frank Duff worked among the poor of Dublin as a member of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. He recognised that religion was a key element in the rehabilitation of those who were life’s victims. He was convinced that when their religion was taken from them, they were deprived of their last hope.

Concerned with the effects of poverty on women, Frank Duff and the Legion of Mary established the Sancta Maria Hostel in Harcourt Street. This initiative empowered countless women to reintegrate into normal life.

Regina Coeli Members

The Regina Coeli Hostel staff consists entirely of members of the Legion of Mary working voluntarily. With six working groups and up to 20 members per group, they ensure the hostel remains in excellent order, providing meals, making beds, and offering friendship to residents.

The Hostel has an Oratory with the Blessed Sacrament and regular Masses. Homeless individuals from all denominations or none are welcomed with respect for their beliefs. Funds are often supported by generous benefactors at critical times.
